MC Tree catching all kind of slack for his intro on SoulTrappin.. I blame bitch-made Macklemore for disingenuously promoting gay shit. ITS RAP, its been known for being sexist, misogynistic, and bigoted. Its almost like DUH. Further, MC Tree is known for his more positive raps, but they come from a quasi-Christian approach and he is black so y'all KNOW his opinions about homosexuality aren't going to be favorable. PLUS, it really wasn't that big a deal what he actually said, they way he said it was almost like saying, "It ain't that big a deal" because he started out saying, "My papa was an addict, but Malcom was an addict and Versace was a faggot.."
The word "but" and connection with Malcom X seems to me to suggest it was a sort of positive reference, like saying "fuck it, its not that bad since this dude was too" and since he goes on to talk about flossing gear in the club looking like Versace, I dare say he wasn't exactly trying to diss. Of course my bias is I live in LA where gay dudes call each other "fags" the way homiez call each other "fool" "bitch" and "nigga" so maybe I'm not reading enough into Tree's choice of words.. Was it smart for him? No. Is it that big a deal? In rap music hardly.

Dre found him after he dropped a mixtape where he's rapping over Eminem instrumentals, he's really good. http://www.datpiff.com/Jon-Connor-Th...pe.336146.html also, i just checked out his twitter and found pics from last month with Dre, Eminem, Kendrick, Ice Cube, Xzibit and more. i think Dre might pull a Beyonce and drop a new album out of the blue this year. |

Why the fuck is Macklemore on that list of names? Can we just not speak of that twat in this thread anymore? At all? I don't even consider him hip hop.
Anyway, kinda wondering what an A$AP instrumental album is going to sound like, and why it's something we're excited about. As fat as I know, Rocky hasn't done much in the way of production. He's certainly not responsible for that glorious, shoe-gazey sound on Long.Live.A$AP. And yet, I feel it will be a success. Maybe not commercially, but I think he's probably got some serious skills to reveal if he's making a two-part instrumental record when all his fans want is more rap, ASAP (ha!) |

Sev, he did production on "Suddenly," "Fashion Killa" and the title track. When he produces it's usually under his Lord Flacko name.
And I don't think it will be a commercial successs... cuz he said he was releasing it free.

I have a friend who's really into the kind of rap that might as well be indie rock (Why?, Cloud Dead, and other Anticon white boys; BLU, Has Lo, whom I've never heard, etc) Anyway, he forced a Mellow Music Group comp on me and I bought it out of guilt.
The label has been affiliated with some great artists, like Black Milk, and I've been meaning to check out Has Lo for some time, so I'm not pre-judging the album... I just hate how this guy always rolls his eyes when I mention any mainstream hip hop artist. Then he hands me all this alt. shit, much of which I already know, and acts like he's helping me get of of heroin. Push all that Jay-Z and Wu-Tang out of that system! There, now you're "growing up!" Pish. It wasn't until I grew up that I realized music was good if it sounded good, and that I'd rather listen to misogynistic lyrics in songs I absolutely love than pretend I hate them just to prevent people from thinking I'm a misogynist myself. Anyway, here's the cover: Why aren't there more hip hop fans out there, and less "type a but never type B" fans, who only like Stones Throw, or only like Compton-based lyrical street shit and hate the weird stuff. I love at least someting from every era and every form hip hop has taken over the past thirty years. So do a lot of you folks, which I appreciate. But most of my real life hip hop conversations go to shit in an instant |

people are weird. i have a friend who only likes CunninLynguists, Atmosphere and Immortal Technique. i sent him some classic 90's rap songs and he said he couldn't enjoy them cuz the lyrics are "too literal". according to him, he only likes a rap song when he has to work hard to understand it, e.g. check RapGenius for hidden meanings and shit.
