Okay, so I want a Sonic Youth signature Jazzmaster. The only problem is, being they type of person predisposed to liking Sonic Youth music also means I will never ever, ever, ever, ever..ever be able to afford an instrument costing $1500.

For less money you could buy a Jazzmaster and a set of Wide Range Humbuckers and do the job yourself.
Although, if you're not into doing customizing yourself, you'd need to find a guitar tech who's willing to rout the body...

never played one, and even dont know the prices for them compared to normal jazzmasters/jaguars.
are they really worth the money?
